Corrupted Visio Worksheet When Opened

E

Edward Jensen

When I open an existing flow chart, just the objects
appear on the light blue background, but no grid or paper
image under it. Doing a print preview shows a blank page.

I originally started work on the project using another
flow chart as a starting point on my XP desktop. I did
some development on the desktop then copied the worksheet
via diskette to the laptop (Win98).

I did more development on the laptop and all looks and
acts fine. It's when I copy the file to the desktop (via
diskette, zip, or internet) that this strange situation
occurs - no paper, just objects on the light blue
background. The paper is nowhere to be seen in the
window.

Other versions of similar flow charts work fine.

What can I do to bring back the paper under the objects?

Edward,

Which version of Visio are you using and what is the type of flow chart
(i.e. is it cross-functional)? If you uncheck "Enable Automation Events" in
Tools > Options > Advanced Tab and open the drawing, does the problem go
away?

Also, since this only happens on one of your machines, it may be an issue
interacting with your printer. You might try changing the default printer
to a different one or nothing at all and let us know what happens. Do any
of the settings in File > Page Setup look strange when this problem occurs?

Tried your solution. So far, working well - no problem
with compressed flowcharts. But, the problem was spotty -
did not have compression problem with each file.
Hopefully, your solution will hold as I work with other
files. Thanks

Hi Bruce,

See my response to your previous posting, "Compressed Images when reopen."
Turning off automation events is only a temporary fix (really just for
diagnosing the problem), as you'll find that the flowcharts may not behave
correctly when you try to edit them. Automation events drive the flowchart
behavior. You'll want to obtain the fix in KB article 289815.
