Corrupted Word files

C

COMPUTER

PLEASE READ ALL OF IT :)
ok, so recently i got my hall.dll erased somehow from my system32 folder.
when i tried turning on my computer in the morning it would display a message
saying, "cannot run, hall.dll missing". so then i tried fixing it and i tried
EVERYTHING. so then, i reinstalled my microsoft windows, and then downloaded
a program called something like, "file recovery", im not sure what it was
called exactly. then it found all my word documents that i was looking for.
when i tried opening them, word gave message saying, "file conversion" and
there are alot of options that i dont know what they are, i think they are
corrupted, because the pages show weird symbols, letters, etc. i am in deep
trouble if i cant recover these documents. if anyone has encountered this
problem or know how to fix it please tell me. i really need your help.

Do you mean hal.dll? That is a Windows file. Anyway, if your Word documents
are not displaying correctly then the file recovery software you installed
may have corrupted them. The only way to really know for sure is to take a
couple of the files and try them on another computer.

Also, why did you download it and install file recovery software? Were you
already haveing problems with your documents?

I'm sorry but I'm still not following why you needed to use the recovery
software - was it because you lost all of your files? Did you reinstall
Windows or did you use your recovery CD that came with the computer? If
that's the case then they may be lost for good. If you used your recovery CD
then essencially it deleted all of your current data. It's likely the file
recovery attempted to recover them but if too much of the file was lost then
they will be unrecoverable. From your desciption that's what it sounds like,
anyway. since I've encountered similar results when I attempted to recover
deleted files.
