Cost Type Resource - 2007

I’ve used earlier versions of Project before but am new to Project 2007 and I
see on the Resource Sheet there is a Cost type of resource as well as Work
and Materials. What is this for?

So that you can distinguish between the types of resources. If you put
your mouse cursor at the top of column row, you'll see where you can
link to "help" about the field where it is fully explained.

Thanks for your reply Rob. However, the Help only refers to Work and Material
type resources. It doesn't mention the Cost type.

Gosh. I replied with my recollection of what help said. That clearly is
a "bug" in Help.

Double clicking on a resource record you get the more detail input form.
on the "General" tab is where you specify the cost type. Pressing the
Help button there gives a bit more info:

"(cost resources: Resources that don't depend on the amount of work on a
task or the duration of a task, such as airfare or lodging.)".

To use, you create the cost type recourse, e.g. "airfare". May be other
places to do this, but if you double click on a task, go to the tab:
resources, you can assign this "airfare" resource to a task and give it
a cost, e.g. €450 or something. That value is added to the [Cost] field
by Project.
