Couldn't Open File Error

I don't remember this happening before, but recently when I have a single htm
file and I try to open it using windows explorer open with... menu in
FrontPage I get an error saying "Couldn't Open File <filename>". If I copy
the file to my "c:\" root it will open. It just won't open in a folder that
is down my "My Documents" tree a bit. Has anyone else come across this? Is
it a bug in FrontPage? Is microsoft aware of it?

There are several things that could cause this.
However, you really don't want to edit pages this way as it prevents FrontPage from managing your
web properly.

"Always" launch FrontPage and then click File > Open web ( Open Site in FP 2003 ) and then browse to
the web and open it and then open a page for editing.

Doing it via Windows Explorer will result in broken links and missing components when you try to
publish your web pages.

Steve,

Thanks. That worked. When I am editting web sites I always do it that
way, but this was just an htm file that I use in a program to generate
invoices and was not intended to be posted on the web. For that reason I
hadn't thought of having FP make the folder it is in into a web. It will
work, however.

Thanks,
David

Instead of creating a new web just for this purpose, consider creating a new
page in an existing web. Then mark it Do not Publish. (Keep it out of your
nav. structure as well)
