count contiguous non-zero blocks?

Is it possible to design a function or devise a macro in
Excel to count the number of unique blocks of cells that
are contiguous and contain non-zero values? This would
be calculated for each row seperately assessing the
contiguity of the non-zero values moving across the
columns.
