I am not a very sophisticated user (can you tell) and am having
problems applying the formula you gave me. Can you explain the "--"
in the statement?

suggest you follow up in the same thread in the same NG and then you would
probably get a quicker answer. As it is, it is unlikely that anyone other
than Tom will know what you're talking about. If Tom is busy you may have a
while to wait.

If it relates to a SUMPRODUCT formula, it is coercing the results to be
numeric ... that is a double negative forcing a numeric value.
