If A1 and/or A2 also have that value in them, you get the wrong result with
your formula, but not Peo's.
Maybe unlikely, but that was what Peo was guarding against. Unfortunately
Peo's version fails to take blank rows into account. Here's another option
which covers both of these possibilities
=SUMPRODUCT(--(A3:A65536="Data 1"))

If A1 and/or A2 also have that value in them, you get the wrong result with
