Count number of hits in a database search

I have created a search page using the DRW that searches a
SQL database and displays the records. Is their a way to
count and display the number of hits to the user before
they decide to print or scroll through all the records?

You could insert a second DRW at the top of the page that runs the same
query but produces a only a record count.
