Count number of row where are data

Hi,

I have a sheet on which an amount of rows have data (for example : 156 rows)
based on different sheets, I would like to retreive the number of row where
are data. for example :

sheet 1 has 156 rows
sheet 2 has 257 rows
sheet 3 has 4 rows.

I thought i could do it using COUNTIF but i don't remember the criteria that
i have to place.
i just want to count how many rows have the A cell not empty.

It returns 0 because i'm not checking cells where are written figures, but
text (main of the time)...
something else ?
