Counting entries in cells

Hi,

I am constructing a spreadsheet that will record the details of walkers on
sponsored walks and the times that they pass through various checkpoints.
The basic sheet has the walker numbers in the vertical column and the
checkpoint numbers across the top. As each walker arrives at a certain
checkpoint, the time is entered in that cell so that progress through the
course can be monitored.

What I would also like to do and this is my problem at the moment, is to
have a running total of walkers through each checkpoint.
I "think" I need to be able to count the number of cells that have a valid
timestamp in them and display this value in a seperate cell, but I cannot
find the correct formatting to do this. Can anyone help please?

Hi Frank,
I can make that work for cells formatted as a number but the cells I want to
count are formatted as TIME (HH:MM) and it does not seem to like this.
