counting valid cells

I have a sheet which has varying numbers of data entries depending on
the month.
At the beginning of the data there is the word STARTDATA
after the last data entry it says ENDDATA.
How do I accurately count the number of entries between the two tag
names into a cell showing DATACOUNT= ?


E.g.
abc
def
STARTDATA
1328
21
875
37267
128
3
12
ENDDATA
rst
uvw
DATACOUNT=

Assuming the data is in col A,
Try: =MATCH("Enddata",A:A,0)-MATCH("Startdata",A:A,0)-1
