Crash when saving from Project Pro...

Hello,

When I try to save a project from Project Pro 2007 to Project Server
2007, I get the following error:

The file cannot be opened.

- Check that the file name and Path are correct.
- Check that the file format is recognized by Project

Project files saved in a version earlier that Microsoft Project 98
can't be opened.

If your file is from an earlier version, open it in that version,
click Save as (File menu), and save in MPX format. Open the MPX file
in the current version of Project When you use this method, project
data is imported, but formatting is lost.

Am I the only one getting these errors? Does anyone have more insights
in this error, perhaps even a solution?

There are some errors viewable in the event viewer:

ID:7797

"FK_MSP_EpmAssignment_ProjectUID_TaskUID". The conflict occurred in
database "ProjectServer_Reporting", table "dbo.MSP_EpmTask".

Mischa

I have had this experience. In my case there were "corrupt"
assignments in the plan and by tracking them down and removing /
fixing them I was able to save the plan. A further symptom of this
problem way the failure of My Task page for the affected resource.

Mike

I don't know why you can't open your project, but I can tell you that the
errors you are seeing relating to the Reporting database have absolutely
nothing to do with why you can't open your project in Project Professional.
I hope at least that little bit of info helps steer you in the right
direction (or at least away from the wrong direction).

If the Reporting errors are in fact from the project you are trying to open
(compare Project UIDs to be certain), then it looks like something is quite
wrong with the project itself, which also might be causing Project
Professional to crash. Do you have any failures/errors in the Queue that
might be helpful in troubleshooting?

Also - answers to a couple of questions would be helpful to me, if you would
like more help.
1. From the last 2 errors you listed (ID 7811), it appears that someone has
altered the Project Workspace Template. There are some alterations of that
template that would not be supported in the Reporting database, and would
cause the failures you see. More info about any edits someone might have
made to the workspace template would be helpful.
2. Regarding the first 2 errors (ID 7797). One hunch. Have you perhaps
used the Team Name custom field without first creating a Lookup Table for
it?

Thanks,
Sharry

The crash only occurs when I try to safe or publish the project. I'm
also trying the project on a new instance of Project Server. The tasks
will be reentered in a new project file (this way faulty information
will not be copied across).

There were some errors in the queue about a check in with the project
that made Project Pro crash.

The error ID 7811 was an error that Project Server could not access
specific columns in the SharePoint list (which were removed) after
creating the columns again, the errors went away. This however did not
stop Project Pro from crashing, but might resolve the ID 7797 error.

I have another error which strikes me as odd. Especially that there's
a %s instead of a group name or other info.
