Create a bitmap file containing text only

Is there a Windows or Office program that will allow me to SIMPLY create a
bitmap file (for use as Desktop background) that contains white text on a
black background?

It has been more than 25 years since the Personal Computer era began and
it's still harder than rocket science to get a simple thing done sometimes.
After an hour and a half of trying to figure out how to use the Paint program
and failing miserably, I thought it might be easier to ask someone.

Thanks.

That would be MS Paint. It isn't difficult. Simply open Paint, there
should be white space, Click the A in the toolbar to use Text, drag a
box to put the text in and Type. File Save as to create a file.

Thanks Bob.

Paint works but the hard part is placing the text box so it comes out
reasonably centered on my display. The real secret was passed to me by a
friend who pointed out the Reverse Colors menu item which finally gave me the
white text on black baclground I wanted. I was trying manually to change the
background to black with the brush but still got black text on a white
background in the text box. Ugly!

Centered is pretty easy. Plunk down the text, location not important but
make it the size you want. Notice that the pointer location is shown in
lower right(Status bar enabled in View) If you "touch" the lower right
corner, you can note the pixel size of your page and 1/2 of both is
center. Now pick the square selecting box, select the area containing
your text, right click on the text and select Cut, then r-click again
and select Paste. The text will "reappear" in the upper left corner in
in moveable state, pick it up with the 4-arrow cursor in the middle of
the box and move it to the center of the area as noted by the pointer
location. When happy click outside the box and save. If you decide you
want it higher or lower, just cut and paste again.
