create a calendar breaking the day into four periods & showing it

I would like to create a calendar which splits the working day into four
sections - working 24 hours - I would then want to produce a programme over
that period with the vertical lines showing the four phase split. Any help
would be appreciated.

Firstly all shifts must start and finish on the same day. Secondly the only
vertical lines you can get automatically are those available under Format,
Timescale so I don't think you can do what you want.

I think you mistated that, Rod, or I misinterpreted it. A shift can
start at, say 11pm and end at 7am the next day.

I think he meant that shifts must be DEFINED individually within the same
day: ie midnight to 7am and 11pm to midnight for that 8-hour shift.
