Create a hyperlink in PowerPoint?

In PP, my hyperlink icon is unlit -- until I insert a text box. At that
point PP will let me insert a hyperlink -- but the hyperlink doesn't work --
no matter whether the text box is "active" or not.

When you choose to insert a hyperlink, you are assigning an action to an
object or some text. Therefore, an object or some text has to be selected
before you can insert the hyperlink. I think that your totally reasonable
thought (which just happens to be different from what PowerPoint has in
mind) is that you insert a hyperlink to place an object with a hyperlink.
This is a fine idea but (and maybe you should suggest it as a new
feature), but it's not the way it works.

Once you have assigned the hyperlink action to something, you must go
into slide show view for it to work. Start your slide show and click on
the text or the object for which you set the hyperlink, and it should
work.
