create a 'torn' edge along the bottom of a worksheet object

I want to insert part of a worksheet - a few cells - as an illustration into
a worksheet object. It should have a wavy/torn/ripped bottom edge to show
that this is just an excerpt of a longer column of cells.

"worksheet" this sounds like Excel to me.
Have you tried asking this question in the Excel forum, as this one is for
Word.

By the way, probably the easiest way to achieve what you want is to find an
image of a torn edge and insert this image across the cells you have as the
edge of your printing range?

Something like this needs to be done in a graphics program using screen
shots of the worksheet content. The images produced can then be inserted
into the target document files as objects.

There's a wavy line in borders and shading. I assume you are copying the
excel section and pasting it into Word. If you select your spreadsheet and on
the Format | borders and shading menu scroll down and you will find a wavy
line which you can apply to the bottom and possibly the right side of the
section.

As long as we're reopening a 3-week-old thread, I'll comment that SnagIt
(www.techsmith.com) lets you apply a ragged edge to any screen shot. For
examples, look at the pictures on Graham Mayor's pages such as
http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm. This is just one of many effects
in SnagIt's toolbox.

There's a free 30-day trial download on TechSmith's site.
