create borders in word

I've tried the steps to creating your own borders. My problem is after I save
it in the auto text (headers & footers bar). I take off the temporary page
border like directed & then when I choose to use that border in a new
document it doesn't look the same as when I saved it. Please help. Using Word
2002

In what way does it not look the same? Does the new document in which you're
using it have different margins, especially a different header margin?

When I open the border I created its not looking the same as when I saved it.
The graphic I used is all out of line. Not just the header but, all of it.
Please direct me in what I'm doing wrong.

I think you're going to have to define "all out of line." What type of
border is this--one using a single piece of clip art or one made up of the
same piece repeated around the border?

I am repeating the same piece all around the page using the ctrl D step.

I'm guessing you mean is it the same size...yes it is. It's the standard size.
