Create custom automated install

HI All,

in office 2003, how do i create a automated custom
install for the office suite, something like ieak, where
we created a custom ie build, we are a big site so we
need to create installtion cd for the desktop support
guys....

use control panel to configure, i wan tthe technicians to
pop the cd in and the installtions start with all
selections already made and licenses agreement and cd key
already done..?

If you run the Custom Installation Wizard, you can set it to where they will not need to enter the cd key or do the license agreement. Its near the beginning of the wizard, I believe where it asks about a local installation source. Once you get done with the wizard, you will need to run the install from the run box in order to use the custom install. To get around this, you can create a batch file which will do that for you. Put the batch file and the custom install file on the same CD with Office, and run it and it will go through the setup and all they will have to do is click next and get the updates.

We do server installs, but I assume same can be done onto a CD. We first built an admin install point by running setup.exe /a. Then ran through the CIW to point to the install .msi file and create an .mst file containing our preferred custom install choices. THis also allows you to pre-supply the License Key and all install options.

Then this whole install folder can be burned to cd. We wrote a batch file that calls the setup.exe for office and included the TRANSFORMS switch to identify the MST file to apply. It looked roughl like:

\\server\share\setup.exe" /lv* c:\officelog.txt TRANSFORMS="\\server\share\FileName.mst" /qb-!

So installers simply dbl-click on the batach file.
