"create new appointments" is locked

[NC Smitty]

All of a sudden (i.e., I don't know what I did) I can't create an appointment
or open one that's already on the books. This after using Outlook every day
for several years. How do I correct this problem?

how many items are in the calendar folder and which version do you have?
