Create picture file from font character?

G

Gordon

Is there any way to create a picture file (JPG, GIF, BMP)
from a single font character? For instance make a JPG
from a size 72 wingding character.

I've done it before using print-screen and cropping the
character from the picture, but I'm thinking there has to
be a better way.

Thanks.

Hi Gordon,

This method may work for you.

1. In Word 2000 or higher start a blank document.

2. In Tools=>Options=>General=>[Web Options]=>/Pictures\
turn off the [ ] Allow PNG as a Graphic Format choice.

3. In the blank document type or insert the character you
want and format it with the font and size you wish from
the Formatting toolbar.

4. Select the typed character and press Delete,
don't move the cursor after that.

5. Use Edit=>Paste Special and select the
Picture (Metafile) choice.

6. Use File=>Web Page Preview.

7. In Windows from Start=>Run type %temp%
then locate the \WordWebPagePreview\ folder
at that destination and you should have a GIF
of the font character in the subfolder.

The attached graphic is the letter 'R' formatted
with the Wingdings font.
