creates a shortcut!!!!

Here's a new one,

I have a spreadsheet that when it is opened it creates a shortcut to itself
in the same directory, there are no macros in the sheet and pretty simple
calculations, I have other spreadsheets in the samw directory that do not
mimic this.

any ideas as to why?

How have you ascertained there are no macros in the workbook?

Sounds like a Workbook_Open code is creating the shortcut.

Right-click on the Excel logo at left of the "File" command and "View Code".

Anything there?
