creating a macron

Using Word 2003. The macron (long i) is not available in the font I want to
use. Is there a way to create it by typing the letter and then placing the
diacritical mark over that letter.

Thank you for your suggestions. I had the most success using the "Arithmeti
mean, shorthand Character way however I was unable to implement using "The Fiel
Dialog) as it added a space even when I deleted the final space from the fiel
Christi¯ ne as the instructions suggest.
