Creating a new project

I would like to know if I should load microsoft project professional 2007 on
the server?

When I logged in as the project admin account on the server and tried to
create a new project in the project web access site it indicated that I
needed to have project professional 2007.

Or should I be doing the administration from a client computer that has
office 2007 and project 2007 installed?

I did not realise that project server 2007 needed project professional 2007.
Is it true that it is not a standalone product but requires all users to have
project professional 2007

You should install Project Professional 2007 on the PC or laptop of every
project manager and Project Server administrator. Your team members,
resource managers, and executives will not need Project Professional 2007,
but instead will use the Internet Explorer software to connect to the
Project Server system using Project Web Access.

You have already made one incorrect assumption (assuming no one needed
Microsoft Project), which led to one key mistake (trying to create a project
without using Microsoft Project). If you try to learn this software on your
own, I'm afraid you will make lots more mistakes and end up very frustrated.

Hi Dale,

I agree the books sound like a good idea as the documentation for Project
Server is very small.

I'm learning that some actions are done with server and some require the
client software.

I'm wondering what is best practice for the server. Should I install office
and project pro on the server?

Are there any tools or utilities that I should find and put on the server?

No, I really don't see any sense in installing Office 2007 and Project
Professional 2007 on the actual server itself. Like I said, you need to
install Project Professional 2007 on the PC's or laptops of every project
manager and everyone who will server as the Project Server administrator.
