Creating a new wss List similar to Issue, Risk to attach to Proj t

Q

Question

hi,

Is it possible to create a new sharepoint list in project workspace similar
to issues and risks to have data in a column in that sharepoint list assigned
to every task in the project? In short creating a new list similar to issues
and risks but for different purpose.

I tried using Issues list as a template and tailoring it for that purpose.
Butr after creating the template, I get error:

"There can only be one instance of this list type in a web.
An instance already exists. "

Thanks

Or is it possible to add 'Link Items' button on top of new form on a new list
so that users can associate the items in the new list to project tasks?

It might be possible, but we've been playing around with that feature quite
a bit, and I would say that I wouldn't advise it. Project Server is pretty
much hard wired to look for four workspace lists:

1) Project Documents
2) Issues
3) Risks
4) Deliverables

Adding another list would probably not work, and there's really no interface
within PWA to even identify another list.

You could repurpose one of the existing lists if you're not using it. In
simple terms, as long as you don't delete any of the existing columns, but
simply add a content type with your own custom columns, then hide the existing
ones that PWA needs to be happy, that should work.

Just thinking about that some more.

You know, one trick that would do roughly the same thing:

1) Create intelligent WBS codes using the Project > Define WBS Codes and the
WBS field functionality (or just use the task name column)
2) Copy the column to Excel
3) Import the Excel list to your workspace as a custom list
4) Navigate to the original list that you wanted to create. Create a new
column in that list, call it "Tasks," and have it look up to the custom task
list. Enable multiple value selection.

Now every item in your original list can be mapped to one or more tasks.
