Creating a number line with ability to change the size and values

E

Eiserize

I have been able to create a number line using arrows and line segments, and
also using the table technique that I found online. My problem is that I
cannot group the number line with the text box in a way that enables me to
change the size of the number line and have the numbers change with the
number line.

This is a huge issue for me as I design tests for Algebra and Pre-Algebra
classes.

I am able to group the lines with the text box, and can adjust the size of
the object, but the text box doesn't align with the adjusted size.

I can give more details if this is confusing and can send the file that I
have created, but I would really love help with this.

I think I know what you mean by a number line

-n -(n-1).... -2 -1 0 1 2 ,,,, n-1 n

but I do not know what it is that you are wanting to do.

It's not clear to me how you're inserting the numbers & aligning them with
the ticks on the number line.

If I were doing this, though, I'd use something like the free Paint.NET to
create the number lines and associated numbers as pure graphics. That way,
they could be enlarged or shrunk as a cohesive unit rather than having to
worry about grouping.

If I knew how you're doing the numbers (in a text box, perhaps, but how are
you assuring alignment with the ticks on the number line?), I might be able
to suggest a way to convert them into a graphic for grouping purposes. If it
is a text box, for example, copy it to the clipboard, then use paste special
to paste a picture of it. Now that it's a graphic, you will be able to group
it with the other elements so that they can be resized together. But, I'm
having a hard time imagining where a table enters the picture (so to speak).

All in all, though, I think I'd Google "number line" pictures, grab one to
use as a starter, and then assemble the variety I need in something more
flexible than Word (for graphics), such as Paint.NET, or Windows Paint (the
latter which comes with Windows).
