Creating a Visio diagram from an Excel Spreadsheet (Visio 2003)

Greetings.

I have a project that calls for the creation of a Visio diagram from an
excel spreadsheet. Basically, I'm trying to visually represent network rack
diagrams and I'm having trouble tying the excel records to different master
shapes. For example, one record could represent a server while another
record could represent a switch, etc. So, how can I read the record from the
Excel spreadsheet then drop the appropriate master shape onto the page
depending on the equipment type? Is this possible? Will I need to program
this functionality using the SDK?

you might check out the visio sdk which has an example of creating a
flowchart from an excel spreadsheet.
