Creating an EMF file for use in Office

I make a great deal of use of the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer
virtual printer from a few applications for creating TIFFs for using in Word,
Excel, faxing etc. Two drawbacks are (a) it is monochrome [not a fax
problem], and (b) scalability is limited.

From what I hear, the EMF format would solve the problems. Is there
anywhere a virtual printer like Microsoft Office Document Image Writer, that
I can use with various Windows applications that will create an EMF format
file?

Hi Adrian

There are a number of 3rd party 'printer' packages for creating EMFs from Word, such as
http://www.verypdf.com/artprint/document-printer/print-to-emf.html
As Mary points out, how the driver knows what vectors to create could require some experimentation.

The .MDI file created as the default MS Office Document Imaging is not a greyscale one, and from within MS Office Document Imaging
you can then 'Save as' a .MDI file to a .TIF file that is full color as well.
