Creating an Org chart by importing from Excel results in error message

I use the Org Chart wizard in Visio 2002 to import an org structure from Excel. After selecting the "name" and "report to" colums from the Excel file, as well as the addit. values for the properties, I select finish to generate the chart.

the following error message is displayed:

Invalid data 3.3.3
Make each value in the "reports to" column refer to a valid entry in another field. {OK to continue}, nothing is generated.

the excel data colums that I use essentially look like this:

Reports to Name Task Name
1 1.1 Budgeting Phase
1.1 1.1.1 Determine budget
1.1 1.1.2 Determine price range
1 1.2 Purchasing Phase
1.2 1.2.1 Locatre dealerships
1.2 1.2.2 Visit dealerships
etc...

Hi Phil,

Where is the Value "1" in the Name column? The one presumably on top of the
hiearchy and the only one that would not have a "Reports to" value.
