creating animations for use in PPT 2007 slideshow

Please take a look at the "round" timer animation (not the "square" one) on
this website:

http://www.pptalchemy.co.uk/Animated_Timer.html

Does anyone know what software could be used to create the "round,
second-hand" gif animation timer on this webpage? I like this time, but I
would like to remove the "blue square" in the background and just have the
round figure. Is there software that I can buy to create such an animated gif
on my own, and then use the gif in my PPT presentations?

Animated gif is a series of static images strung together to make a simple
'movie' or animation. Any image editing application could be used to create
a similiar graphic. Photoshop is my standard and the image would have a base
layer of the round circle with bevels for the background, layer with the
white accent on top of that, then the marker lines, the clock numbers and
finally a series of layers for the various timer positions. Whole thing
would be opened in the companion program, ImageReady (or if using CS3 all
would be done directly in Photoshop) and setup layers on timeline for export
to .gif. Background can be transparent or anything else desired (remembering
that .gif uses a limited color palette).
