Creating Custom Lists

K

Kamlesh

I have been trying to create custom lists and partly successful.

I want Risks and Issues list customized. So I customized the original
Issues list and saved it as a template say "Issues Customized
Template". I could see this immediately under Create Add New Library
Lists under the Tracking section.

I thought I will do the same thing with the Risks list. I could
customize it but when I saved it, I couldn't find it under the Site >
Create Add New Library Lists etc.

I can see the two lists under PWA > List Template Gallery but I cannot
see the template in the section I had mentioned earlier. Now although
I have created the customized risks list but cannot use it.

I was trying to create custom lists but struggled due to a couple of
reasons.

1. How to generate an auto number column called ID. I couldn't find
that option in the field type.

2. The issues and risk list has a field called Link and the type is
Project Link. I am not able to create such a field for my custom list.
How can I do that.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Kamlesh,

Here are the answers to your 2 questions:

1. each list creates their own ID when you create a list in the first place.
There is not custom way for you to create an ID unless you custom develop it.

2. What exactly are you trying to do? When you create a Risk and Issue list
on PWA level, you are not able to use the "Project Link" function, since
these lists are not part of a Project.

When you are after amending your project workspace, you will need to amend
an exisiting template and save it as a new template. If you let me know what
exactly you are trying to do, I will try to give you an answer on how to
achieve this.
Hope this helps
Marc

Thanks Marc.

I have been unnecessarily struggling. The ID element was hidden in the
Default view so I couldn't see it.

What I was trying to do was define my custom lists because I need more
fields in the Issues and Risks lists. Your suggestion of creating a
site template worked like a charm. I have now created a template for
my site but I have to do certain workaround. Maybe you can help me
there.

I create the project and publish. While publishing I don't get to
choose the template so I go and delete my project site and recreate it
with the same URL using my stored template. Am I again doing a
workaround for nothing or there is a simpler method?

Thanks,
Kamlesh.
