creating labels using mail merge

I created a data source for the 'get data' set on the mail merge helper
which has enebled me to create labels. However when I used it today and
specified the data source i got the message that this file is a main
document and therefore could not be used as a data source. the data
source is a word table created by the mail merge helper program.
Greatful for any ideas.
