creating link bars with the nav structure

When I publish the link bar using the nav structure, it won't publish the
graphical buttons I select for a theme? Do I have to activate something to
make these buttons publish? They are viewable on the local site!

FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions.
FrontPage 2003 will publish correctly, but the server must have the 2002
extensions.

I'm having the exact same problem, and I've tried two different web hosting
servers (both claim to have FP extensions, which I've enabled). The link bars
look great in FP, but are just text when I publish my site. This is pretty
frustrating. Please help!

Please give a link to one of your sites so that we can look at it. Seeing
what is there often helps to solve problems.

Sure -- I appreciate the help. Here's one of the sites:

www.egregory.org

The main problem is with the link bars (which, even though they're text,
don't show up with the blue background from the style sheet).

Again, thanks for everyone's help!

The theme (ice) you are using for the link bar does not appear to be
uploaded.

Open the remote site and Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks
If this fails, open the remote site, and remove then reinsert the link bar
from the left border area.

y1htak

When you say Open the remote site, does that mean that you are making the
changes live? I usually like to make changes off line then upload the
content. Any suggestions? thanks

E

ericgreg

Okay, I did that and it worked (although it took a really long time to save).
Do I have to do that each time I change the home page? I usually make all
changes off-line then publish them all at the same time.

Thanks again for your help --

R

Ronx

Now that the theme is present on the server, I think you can revert to local
editing and publishing (I normally edit live [on a development server] and
do not use themes at all). The long save time initially was because the
theme elements had to be uploaded when the page saved - as long as you use
the same theme future live edits should be much faster.

R

Ronx

Correct - this should only need to be done once to ensure the theme elements
are uploaded.

Ronx,

I'm having the same problem you responded to earlier this year. I selected
a web theme, choose the style for the buttons on the horizontal and vertical
link bars and cannot seem to get the graphics to work on the published remote
site. The puzzling thing is that when I access the remote site through Front
Page 2003 and go into the edit mode, the buttons appear, graphics and all.

I read your solution but don' quite follow the directions to fix this. Can
you advise a little more specifically how I can fix this?

Thanks,

Tom Ross

How are you uploading the local web to the server?

What happens if you open the live web with FrontPage hit tools/ recalculate
hyperlinks, then close the site and visit with a browser to see if the
images are still missing?

I published my site via the Publish command in Front Page. I have my site
hosted by Omnis at www.idealhomesofgriffin.com and also at a URL at
http://004433e.netsolhost.com/ I'm in the process of moving my domain and
web site for hosting to Network Solutions. This URL is with Network
Solutions. Both have the Front Page extensions enabled. Both are running
Unix.

I opened each web site via the Front Page button while connected to the web
site. I've tried the Recalculated Links in the Tools menu. What's odd is
that I can see the graphic buttons when in Front Page, but when I close the
site and go back to it via Internet Explorer, it still only shows the text
for the buttons only.

Any other suggestions?

Don't use the quick FP toolbar button to open the site live.

Open FP
Open Web/Site
type in the url: http://www.idealhomesofgriffin.com

Then Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks.

Close Web.

Open Web/Site
open your local web..whatver you call it on your local machine.
Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks

Then try a full Publish to the server.

<<You may want to rename any image files that have spaces (%20) or capitalization, etc. before you do this - you're on unix>>

Open the remote site using File->Open Site and choose or type in the
web site URL.
Open a page and remove the link bar, whether it appears correctly or
not.
Save the page (and shared border) files
Re-insert the link bar

This should ensure that the theme used for the link bars are uploaded
correctly.

So FB 2003 won't publish the files correctly?

What is the FP 2002 SE?
