Criteria Problems

I have three lines of criteria in a query that are working in ways that for
some reason don't make sense to me. I am creating a retiree database and I
need access to not include those who have the status of the spouse and
retiree as cancelled. When I specify Not "CANCELLED" for both they come up
anyway. Any suggestions? I can post the SQL if needed.

That's what we need.
Also, what datatype is the [Status] field that say's "Cancelled"?
Text, or a Check Box field?
