cropping and saving files to be imported into word

Rob

Hi

I use the PrintScreen button to do screenshots on unix, then paste them into
Paint, crop them, copy them, and paste them into word.

I believe that I can reduce my file size if I save them after cropping --
but when I save from Paint, it saves the whole screenshot, not the cropped
part.

How I can I most easily save a cropped screenshot to be imported into word?

Thanks,
Rob

This is clearly no better than pasting the screen shot directly into Word
and cropping it there! I can't imagine that Paint doesn't allow you to save
the cropped image, but since I have no experience with Paint, I won't go on
record with this. If you will be using a lot of screen shots, especially if
they are for an important project, it would be worth your while to acquire a
dedicated screen capture utility such as SnagIt (www.techsmith.com), which
will allow you to crop and enhance your screen shots (which can be much more
varied than just full screen or active window) and save them in a huge
variety of graphic formats.

To crop in Paint you select the area then use edit > copy to
and the selected bit is saved as a new file.
