Cross platform endnote problem

I'm creating documents in WORD 2004 and working with clients who are on
Windows. When I send the client a document with endnotes and cross
references in arabic, they see only roman endnotes and roman cross
references. Once I get the document back from them, I have the roman
numbering as well.

How can I prevent the numbering from changing?

I know how to change the roman endnotes back to arabic, but it does not
change the cross reference numbers.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Peter,

The answer to your question depends upon the versions of EndNote, Word
for Mac and Word for Windows that you are using.

If you are using Word 2004 with Endnote Version 9 specifying UniCode
fonts and the Windows users are using Word 2003 then troubleshooting
will be easier.

Hi Jim,

Sorry to be a bit slow, where do I find the Endnote version number for
Word 2004? If I find that I have version 9, is there a way to switch
between UniCode fonts and some other font?

Unfortunately, I have no control over the Windows users version. It's a
major corporation and IT calls the shots.

Thanks,
Peter

Jim,

I now see that Endnotes 9 is a 3rd party software. Do you think
purchasing this software will cure the problem?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter.

No, not at all. Jim misread and thought you were using the program EndNote.
Ignore that.

Let's start over at the beginning. Original post quoted at end.

It kinda sounds like *their* Word is screwy. Do you know what version of
WinWord they might have?

What font is the document in?

Re the cross-references not changing:
I assume these are cross-references to the existing endnotes?
Cross-references are fields. After changing the endnotes, if you Update
Fields, then the cross-references should pick up the new endnote format as
well.

To update fields:

Help:
€ To update all fields in a document, click Select All on the Edit menu,
hold down CONTROL and click the selection, and then click Update Field on
the contextual menu.

It's easier to hit F9, but Apple hijacked that for Exposé, so until you have
re-assigned Exposé, F9 won't work.

Hi Daiya,

The document is in Times New Roman. Several of my Windows clients are
having this problem (I know because they are sending the edited
document back to me and the endnotes are roman). I also just checked it
out by dragging the original document into Virtual PC Word 2003. When I
opened the document on the dark side (Windows) the arabic numbering was
changed to roman. My clients are also using Word 2003.

Strange.

Thanks,
Peter
