When I set a cross-reference to a caption, the next time I open the document
it will show as if it had been deleted and re-entered with exactly the same
wording, i.e., one copy of it highlighted in red and an identical copy in red
with strikethroughs. This apparently happens only when 'track changes' was in
effect at the time the document was closed.
If I accept the change, save, close, and reopen, same thing - the
cross-reference seems to have regenerated itself and again shows as a change.
Is there a way to prevent this (other than by turning off 'track changes'
before closing)? It's a pain if I forget to turn off 'track changes', save
the doc, and distribute it, as then all the recipients will see the
highlighting when they open it.
Interestingly, in playing with this I've found that for some reason certain
types of text (bulleted text, index1, and others) don't do it. So I could
always assign one of these types to my cross-reference, but that seems klugy.
Thanks,
Anne
