Cross referencing fields

Hello
We would like to use the Team Name and Group field in a Project Center view.
Since they are designated as Resource fields they aren't a choice when a
Project Center view is created. Is there a way to create custom fields that
use the values in these fields? I know I can create a custom field that uses
the same Lookup tables but I want to avoid people having to enter the same
info into two different fields.
TIA

You can create a custom Project field that contains the Teams lookup table,
or whatever name you gave to the Lookup Table used with the Team Name field.
That saves you some time. The Group field is a standard Resource field and
has no Lookup Table attached to it, nor can you attach a Lookup Table. You
would need to create a custom Project field for that purpose, and perhaps
create a custom Lookup Table to use with it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for answering. By the way I love your books.
I did create a lookup table for Team Name. The thing is that's a resource
field so when I create a view in the Project center I can't pull that field
and show team name per project. For example: we want to designate a business
area, PMO. So team members belong to PMO and the project also belongs to
PMO. Is there a different approach I should take for this?

Teresa:

You ultimately need two different fields, one to attribute resources and one
to attribute projects. If you can come up with a business rule that doesn't
have a lot of exceptions, you might try writing a macro to automatically
update the projects or the resources, although I can't imagine how the
latter would work.

Re-read my answer again. You need to create a custom enterprise Project
field that is attached to the Lookup Table you created for the Team Name
field. For example, you might name the field Responsible Team or something
like that. Even after creating this custom enterprise Project field, your
PM's will still need to click Project - Project Information and select a
value from the Lookup Table for the Responsible Team field, as it will not
fill in automatically. However, even if the process is manual, won't that
solve your problem? Let us know.
