Cube Error

Earl Forrence

Hi ho everyone,

(Posted this to wrong NG during a stressful moment)

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a problem where my nightly
OLAP Cube production seemed to be in an infinate loop. No
error was being reported; and I got a "Sorry, but I can't
be of much help without an error message". That was
understandable ...

But I did later get Cube create to work by changing the
name of the cube from "Production Cube One" to "Production
Cube Two". All the right info was there, but (of course)
my reports were still looking for the data in "Production
Cube One".

Well, once cube creation was going again, my IT department
blew-away the old version of "Cube One" and we tried to
once again to create a "Cube One".

Cube creation was reported to start, but when we check
back in about 15 minutes, the creation seems to have
failed and we now get the following message:

The cube scheduled to be built on 8/13/2004 at
1:38 PM failed.

(-2147221421) Server initializing Data
Source 'OLAP DS'

Well, at least there's an error message. Can anyone be of
any help telling us what the problem might be, and a
possible solution?

BTB, this is Enterprise 2002 and cube analysis is on the
same system as the rest of the system (but normally runs
at 1 AM) ...

Thanks ... Earl

Earl:

Does Cube 2 continue to build trouble free? If so why not point the views
to the new cube name? Depending on what exactly got executed in the "blow
away" step you mention in your post, there could be any number of reasons
why the cube won't build with the same name as bad cube one. The error
indicates the failure is happening in SQL Server.
