Currency format shows £0.00. Can this be removed

A field formatted to currency shows £0.00 when empty in a report. How can
£0.00 be removed to shrink the line.

Set the Format property of the control to:
$#,##0.00;-S#,##0.00;" ";

Use your Pound sign instead of the $.
