CURRENCY SWITCHES NOT WORKING

Please help. I am trying to format an amount in a mail merge field as
currency to two decimal places. I have wirtten {MERGEFIELD"RENT_INC_VAT"}\#
"£,0.00"} and this isn't working. What have I written wrong?
