Cursor follows mouse pointer!!

Whenever in Word and typing the cursor often jumps to where the mouse
pointer is rather than the text entry point. This happens even if I park the
mouse pointer in an inactive area such as the status line.

Does anyone know why the cursor insists on following the mouse pointer in MS
Word regarless of where the mouse is parked?

Help!!!
