Cursor hides

When moving around in a document with automatic numbering
or with automatic outlining the cursor disappears. To even
save the document you either have to use ALT F then use
the arrow keys to hit close or watch for file to highlight
without the cursor being visable. To clear this condition
I must close all programs and reboot. Normally the only
open programs are word and outlook and somtime excel. I
had this problem on this machine with windows 98 and now
with windows XP Pro both with office 2000. The cursor is
only not visible with word.

I don't think this problem can be fixed from within Word. Try changing the refresh rate and/or number of colors in your display adapter (click on Start | Control Panel | Display).
