Word 2007 on 64 bit Windows 7 has a flickering cursor since today

Today I started my laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I have all
Microsoft updates installed.

If I run Word 2007 (Professional) the cursor in Word switches continously
between the wait and the normal cursor many times a second. The text
continuously gets updated. It looks like Word is repaginating without
stopping, but swithcing of the automatic repaginating option does not help.
CPU load on the dual core machine stays 22% for Word alone while I'm not
typing.

Restarting the laptop, doing an Office repair or checkdisk does not help.
Starting WinWord.exe /a does not help. The flickering starts when I open
Word, even after closing the empty startup document the flickering continues.
The flickering of the cursor goes so fast I can not work normally with Word
anymore.

Any clues how to solve this?

Additional information, Word 2007 is also leaking memory, if I leave it open
Word just stops with a message that it has encountered a problem. This
happens after starting with WinWord /a

I like talking to myself, so I'll post the solution too...

Using the procmon (process monitor) tool I saw that WinWord continuously was
reading the printer settings. I had Fineprint 6.08 installed as the default
printer. After setting another default printer the problem with Word was
gone. If I select fineprint again as printer the problem occurs again. So I
think I have Fineprint to blame.

Word needs to see a locally installed, compatible printer driver to work.
But you should still be able to print to a PDF pseudo printer: I'd check to
see if FinePrint has an update.

BTW, this Newsgroup is not run by Microsoft. We are all volunteers providing
peer-to-peer support and have other jobs to attend. So please don't expect
instant support!

Thanks man, you saved a long days work for me. You should be called a life savor.
