cursor jumping out of subform to main form

I saw a similar question posted (can't remember if it was here), but no one
responded.

I have a form with some smaller (1-3 fields) subforms. Whenever a user tabs
or clicks into the first field on the subform, the screen blinks, then the
cursor uncerimoniously jumps to the first field on the main form. The next
time the user tabs or clicks in the subform, it's fine.

This happens with Access 2000 and 2003.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
