cursor problem in Word 2003

This morning, I was working on my desktop (XP Pro, Office
2003) and suddenly the cursor in Word went berserk --
flying all over the screen, uncontrollable, froze the
program, etc. Closing the program and reopening didn't
help, but rebooting my computer solved the problem.

Any suggestions? The timing of this glitch was really,
really bad.
