Custom categories in Navigation Pane - Access 2007

When I open the Navigation Options dialog box, the "Add Item" button to add a
category is disabled. How do I get back the ability to create custom
categories?

This is a converted Access2003 database. I have a similar problem with an
Access2003 database being run in Access2007 that had groups set up with
differing permissions. If I log in as a member of the Admins group, I can
create new categories. If I log in as a member of the Users group, the same
problem as above occurs: the "Add Item" button is disabled and none of the
categories that I created appear in the Navigation pane. Since the database
users are members of the Users group, this is quite inconvenient.

TIA

sounds like the User Level Security was set up to allow the admin to hide
objects but not users - - that seems reasonable. you will want to look in
the security area....an mdb file moved from 03 to 07 staying in mdb format
keeps it alive....

though 07's accdb format does not have User Level Security

That sounds reasonable but is there anything in the security area that I can
change to correct this while I check into other options to use for security
instead?

I keyed in on one phrase of your description which was that "can do as admin,
can not do as user"....and thus I thought "security" setting.... particular
since you mentioned Access03 which has the User Level Security...

still just a guess; but look at what the users are permitted to do....there
is a security area on this site for indepth advice from an mvp. I can't give
casual advice on the particulars of security cause I don't set it up on a
daily basis....just trying to point out an avenue where you might want to
look....
