Is there a way in Word 98 for Mac to create a custom color for the
background of a table cell?

Hi, Kirk,

You might be more likely to get a response if you post this in
microsoft.public.word.macword98.

I will, but it looked like there weren't too many people who visit that
newgroup.

Thought I might get a quicker response here.

Actually, all the Mac traffic has moved to
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.mac.office.word. What we're
stuck trying to figure out is whether Word 98 = Word 97 (in which custom
colors weren't possible) or = Word 2000, in which they were.

My guess is that, if you see just 16 "colors" in the Shading dialog (instead
of 64 colors and shades of gray) and no button for "More Colors...," then
there are no more.

It only shows 16 colors and no "More Colors..."

I brought it home where I have Word v.X and had no trouble creating a
custom background.

Brought it back to work and opened the file and it changed the color to
the closest color in the list of 16. Really think it's time for an upgrade.
