Custom Dictionary

Hi
Within the Spelling preferences I have Custom Dictionary, it is checked, and
I also have a file Custom Dictionary in the Office 2008 folder.

However, I am getting error messages telling me that the Custom Dictionary
is not available

I have also selected English (UK) as the required dictionary, but it doesn't
seem to be accepting this, I just get the error message, and my US
spellings are not being highlighted as mistakes.

Can someone help me please

Hello Alex -

It sounds like you may have 2 issues at play here...

First,go into the Spelling Prefs, open your Custom Dictionary, make some
sort of change & save - see if that causes it to be recognized again.

The second issue may be the Language formatting in the document may be
something other than English (UK). Select All, go to Tools> Language & set
it accordingly. Also, make sure that the check is cleared on "Do not check
spelling..." & ‹ of course ‹ that the Spelling Prefs are set to "Check
spelling as you type" & not checked to "Hide spelling errors...".
