Custom Field Impact

Kristi

I'm assuming that custom fields in Project Server definitely impact
performance, but I'm not sure how much. Can you give me a guideline on how
custom fields impact performance and a recommended limit to add?

Thanks!

P2003 or P2007? Enterprise or Local?
They will of course limit performance, but a more important question, how
many to you need to support the business processes? I've seen pretty much
all the Enterprise Project custom fields used in P2003 Server and the perf
was okay...

there are no hard and fast rules that I'm aware of.

Hi Kristi,

I cant tell you exactly what impact custom fields have on your preformance,
but I can tell you that we have implemented Project Server 2007 several times
now with far more then 20 custom fields and the preformance has always been
acceptable.

As Ben suggested already, the question you may want to answer is "how many
custom fields do I need to accomodate to our business process". I would say
that Project Server is able to accomodate for your custom fields, without a
huge impact on performance, appart from OLAP Cubes. The cube build will take
longer based on the amount of custom fields you include in the build. This
becomes appearant when you have task custom fields.
I hope this helps
