Custom Field not showing in project center view

R

RAJ

we are planning to have a Enterprise Custom field to show
the CPI as a graphical indicator fields we opned the
enterprise golbal, created the field and saved it. THe
idea is to have have one project center view which shows
this field for all the projects listed in that view

I have learned that individual projects needs to be
published to show this field ...does that mean that we
have to publish all the projects or any one of them so
that this field is shown properly on the project center
view ( at least for that project if not all of them ) if
that is true do we have to publish this field from
publish fields option for all the projects one by one ??

is there any other way by which we can show this field
without publishing all the projects.

Thanks
RAJ

Hi,

You don't have to publish all projects, just the projects
you want.
Furthermore, this field will show up only for those
projects for which,in Project Professional, under Tools-
Customize Published Fields, you added your field to the
list of additional fields for publishing, and then
republished that project.
If you publish a project, without adding this field to the
list of fields for publishing, then when you go to the
Project Center, this field will be blank.
I hope this can help you.

This is very helpful. I have another question

I have been trying to make a new "project center view"
which will have a graphical indicator for SPI This
indicator will indicate the project top level SPI of the
all the published projects in project server.

I am not sure which enterprise fields to use and what
will be the formula since I want to show this only in
project center view (for higher management to see SPI of
all the projects they do not want to see the SPI for each
task in a one project but across all the project so I am
not having graphical indicator fields in project views )

so the question is I am not sure if I should be using
the Enterprise Cost ( for TASK ) or Enterprise Project
Cost field (for Project ) I understand while creating
project center view I do see any enterprise cost fields
for task only enterprise project cost field can any one
tell me why it is like that also since I plan to use the
project cost field this field is also visible in project
information and i do not want user to enter any value so
I am not sure what is the right way to display graphical
indicator for SPI of all the projects in project center
view......

also what will be the graphical indicator criteria should
I be selecting only Project summary option ?

I assume the formula will be just SPI ? to acheive above
view.....

thanks

I believe this was you. Anyway, I used an Enterprise Project Number field. and since MSP calculate SPI for you that would all you need to is to insert the SPI in the formula. For the indicators, since anything below 1.0 is bad, you might use something like this
red= < .7
amber= < 1.
green = 1.0 or greate

remember MSP comes to the first true statement and stops so order is important. The values all depend on your company's values. But if you are only getting $.75 for every $1 you are spending I would be looking at this project

Hope this helps

Hi

Many thanks for making things much clear ! now what will
be the Indicator criteria set to in this case just use
the default option "nonsummar rows or the summary rows or
the last option of project summary ?

I belive since the idea is to show the SPI indicator for
all the projects in project center view then I should
just select the project summary option please guid what
is the best choice

thanks

Use the non summary in Graphic indicators and click on Use Formula for the group and summary level in the Custom dialog box. it is the middle choice

good luck try testing if not sure with local field.
